I’ll keep this post short and sweet. It’s been quite a while since I last posted here (about eight months at the time of writing this). The website branch of Upper Cumberland Weather has largely been neglected by yours truly, and for that, I want to apologize.

To be honest, we don’t really see a whole lot of traffic here. Even on severe weather days, this site is lucky to receive a few hundred visits when I post the link to Facebook.

The truth is, most people don’t want to click a link, even though I can go into much greater detail here than Facebook will allow. However, it’s counter-productive to spend all of my energy here when a lesser-effort Facebook post serves the same purpose and will reach a significantly wider audience.

So for the time being, I won’t tease ‘bringing the website back.’ I’ve tried it a few times with the same, not-so-great results, mainly because I can’t stay consistent. My schedule simply won’t allow me to update this site regularly — enough to spur daily interest and bring more people in without having to post a link to Facebook — especially when a well-written post can take an hour or more to write and generate graphics for. I just don’t have the time right now.

None of this is to say this site will be abandoned forever. The eventual goal is to have someone (or maybe a couple people) on staff who can help maintain the site in order to pump out a true daily blog. Once we can get to that point, then I truly believe this website can be a success.

However, the back and forth deciding of whether or not I want to fool with the site on a regular basis only does more harm than good for our metrics, so for now, I’m choosing to let this ongoing project sit on the back burner.

And to be fair, I have a ton of other projects I’m working on that are more important for the future of Upper Cumberland Weather and will make a greater impact on this operation.

So that’s all I have to say regarding this matter. The website will still be here and continue to be a repeater source for our live channel and Twitter feeds. Eventually we’ll host a daily blog and a lot more weather-related content, but other projects take priority for now, so it’s going to be some time before my full focus and attention shifts to this website. But that day will come…hopefully much sooner rather than later!
