We began our Friday with widespread showers across the area thanks to a warm front lifting north through the Mid State. That front is now up in Kentucky, and it’s taken the rain along with it, leaving us mainly quiet this evening and through much of the overnight period.

Temperatures will remain mild overnight, not falling off much from where they stand this evening. Most areas will bottom out in the upper 50s to around 60°.

Scattered showers and and a few thunderstorms look to redevelop during the morning hours of our Saturday, perhaps as early as pre-sunrise. This activity will come out ahead of a cold front that will slowly move through during the afternoon and evening timeframe.

The morning/midday activity doesn’t look to pose any sort of severe storm threat, but there may be enough instability to generate a bit of lightning.

Winds may get a bit breezy at times with gusts of 20 mph+ possible. Make sure outdoor Christmas decorations are nice and secure.

The cold front itself will bring widespread light showers across our region during the evening and nighttime hours. We’ll see temperatures begin to fall during this time as the front moves through.

Rain should come to an end completely by daybreak Sunday with colder temperatures firmly in place. We’ll be down in the 30s on the way to church with highs only recovering to the lower to middle 40s, even with sunshine expected to return during the afternoon.

As we enter the week of Christmas, we’ll see our temperatures moderate just a bit back into the 50s with dry conditions remaining in place through at least Thursday.

Current indications are we might see a trend toward warmer temperatures as we head into Christmas weekend. We’ll be on standby to see if this is one of those ‘wear shorts on Christmas’ deals.

We’re definitely not looking at a white Christmas, unfortunately. It’s wait and see as to whether or not we’ll have any rain to contend with.
